Vol. 577 No. 5

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

200 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if the disabled person's grant is payable in respect of a new house if the applicant had a house previously; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31889/03]

Under the disabled person's grant scheme administered by local authorities, assistance is provided for the adaptation or extension of accommodation, or provision of additional facilities specifically to meet the needs of a disabled person. A grant may not be allowed, however, where a new house grant had already been paid under the specific exemptions from certain conditions available to disabled persons. Decisions on individual applications are the responsibility of the relevant local authority.
