JOINT COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS debate -
Wednesday, 1 Oct 2008

Business of Joint Committee.

The minutes of the meeting of 10 September have been circulated. Are they agreed? Agreed.

We have one item of correspondence referred to the committee regarding decisions taken by the Joint Committee on European Scrutiny. It has been circulated and it is proposed that it be noted.

The Chairman has received a letter suggesting Professor Ilan Pappé visit on 30 October.

That will come up later for consideration. This other one states it is agreed to send proposals to the Sub-Committee on Overseas Development for its information. COM (2008) 450/5 is a proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and the Council establishing a facility for a rapid response to soaring food prices in developing countries. The proposal appears to have no major implications for Ireland and given that the Council and Parliament have supported it in principle, it was agreed that the proposed regulation warranted no further scrutiny; however, the information is provided for the benefit of members.
