The Summer Recess.

Cathaoirleach

Before we begin to-day's business, I should like to consult the House as to the adjournment for the Summer Recess. It should be possible to finish the business on to-day's Order Paper this evening, or tomorrow at latest. The Dáil resumes again to-day, after its fortnight's holiday, and the length of time for which that House will sit before it rises for the summer is variously estimated at from a fortnight to a month. I have consulted some Senators, and I suggest to the House that, as soon as the business of to-day's Order Paper has been disposed of, we should adjourn until Wednesday, the 22nd August. By that date we shall have received from the Dáil whatever measures they have passed before the summer, and we should be able to deal adequately with them in a fortnight or three weeks. That is to say, we ought to be in a position to take the long adjournment early in September, and the probability is that the House will not then be called together again until November. Is that agreed?

Agreed.
