Vol. 50 No. 15

Business of Seanad.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

Could we have any idea as to how long the Seanad intend to sit or if it is intended that this stage will be concluded and at what hour? A number of the amendments may take very considerable time. It is better to think about this now and we can leave the decision over until the House meets after tea.

The understanding I had of arrangements made on various occasions here was that we could finish the Committee Stage of this Bill to-night—and that is my expectation.

Yes. Would the Senator go on to say what is intended next week, perhaps, or will we leave that over? I do not mind.

We have to meet next week on Wednesday as Tuesday is St. Patrick's Day. I take it we will take the Report Stage at some time on Wednesday and begin the Central Fund Bill, if that is feasible, unless there is a general desire that we should sit in Holy Week and subsequently in Easter Week.

I understood—it may not be possible—that the suggestion was made to meet on Wednesday to do the Report Stage of this Bill, assuming we finish the Committee Stage and, at 7 p.m., to take the Central Fund Bill; to meet on Thursday at 10.30 a.m. and resume the Report Stage and endeavour to finish it before 1.30 p.m. and then to have the whole of Thursday evening for discussion on the Central Fund Bill. That given from 7 to 10 p.m. and from 3 to 10 p.m. on the Central Fund Bill. If necessary, the Central Fund Bill could be concluded by meeting on the Friday morning. It would mean finishing all the stages of this Bill not later than 1.30 p.m. on Thursday next.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

For the moment, that can only be a tentative arrangement.

I should like some time to examine that.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

I would remind the House at this point that we can be here until midnight with the amendments that remain to be decided.

Business suspended at 6 p.m. and resumed at 7.15 p.m.
