Special Committee Companies Bill, 1962 debate -
Wednesday, 20 Nov 1963

Sittings of the Special Committee.

Should we set ourselves a time limit for this meeting so that we will not sit beyond a certain hour ?

I suggest we should not sit too long tonight.

Would you like to suggest a time for concluding this evening ?

Would 9.30 p.m. be agreeable to everyone ? If not, perhaps we could finish at 9 o'clock. Let us put it tentatively at 9 o'clock, and, if necessary, we could meet beyond that time in order to finish a section.

I wonder could my amendments get preference as I have to leave at 7.40 p.m. to attend another meeting ?

The Senator's amendments are far on in the Bill.

I could leave them over to the next meeting. I have a certain point of view with regard to them. Perhaps, we might be able to take the three together, and we might be able to dispose of them quickly.

We will have another meeting anyway. If the Senator has gone when we reach them we will hold them over until the next meeting.

I should like to be present when they are discussed.

If we reach the relevant sections when the Senator is not here we will leave them over to the next meeting.

Without anticipating anything, may we go back to the time of the next meeting ? I understand the Seanad is sitting on Tuesday next and in that event I should like to suggest Tuesday afternoon might be suitable for our next meeting. It was usual to have the special Committee sitting on the same days as the Dáil was sitting.

Let us say 4.30 p.m.

4.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.? The Seanad would be likely to sit on Wednesday as well and I would be pleased to have the meeting on Wednesday either.

I would be in the Chair in the Seanad but that will not make any difference.

I would prefer Tuesday.

Wednesday afternoon is convenient at 4.30 p.m. Senator George O'Brien has sent his apologies that he could not attend tonight. We will have to take the Bill section by section although we may not have much to say on some of them.

Section 1 agreed to.
