Standing Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills debate -
Thursday, 23 Oct 1997

SECTION 37.

Amendments Nos. 4, 5, 7, 20, 21, 22, 75, 76, 103 and 139 may be discussed together. Is that agreed? Agreed.

I move amendment No. 4:

In page 101, lines 32 and 33, to delete "The Agricultural Credit Corporation, Limited" and substitute "ACC Bank plc".

The purpose of this amendment is to remove ambiguity and inconsistency and to achieve in the Taxes Consolidation Bill, 1997, adaptation to exiting law and practice by taking account of the changes which have taken place to the constitution of the bank under the ACC Bank Act, 1992. The term "Agricultural Credit Corporation Limited" occurs in other sections and I suggest we take into account the change which has taken place in the constitution of the bank.

I accept the amendments. The purpose of the amendments is to remove inconsistency and to achieve adaptation to existing law by taking account of the change to the constitution of the Agricultural Credit Corporation Limited and the Industrial Credit Corporation under the ACC Bank Act, 1992, and the ICC Bank Act, 1992. Deputy Ferris's amendments accurately reflect the current names of the institutions and I recommend the Committee accept them.

I move amendment No. 5:

In page 102, lines 3 and 4, to delete "The Industrial Credit Corporation plc" and substitute "ICC Bank plc".
