The allegations made of illegal fishing were formally advised to the Garda Síochána by the Department with a request for an investigation on 12 October 2004. The European Commission was also formally advised of the matter and of the action taken at that time. No discussions have been held with the European Commission on this matter. It is a matter for the Commission to take any action it considers appropriate and I have not been advised at this time of any action being proposed.
