It is not correct to say that retired Gardaí received their monthly pension payments for December 2010 in January 2011. Pensions are paid to retired Gardaí and their dependents on a monthly basis in advance and fall due on the first banking day of each month. Therefore the payments for the month of January 2011 were due on the 4th January 2011 and the new Budget changes were correctly applied to these payments. However, the pension payments to retired members of the Commissioner ranks are made on the last banking day of each month in arrears. Therefore the payments due to for the month of January 2011 will be dated 31st January 2011 and the new budget changes will then be applied to these payments also.
