Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht invites applications from members of the public for nomination to Board of RTE

26 Nov 2020, 14:20

The Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht is inviting applications from suitably qualified members of the public who would like to be considered for appointment to the board of RTE.

There are four vacancies for which suitable candidates will be proposed by the Committee for nomination to the RTE Board by the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and appointment by the Government.

A Working Group made up of Committee Chair Deputy Niamh Smyth, Vice-Chair Deputy Alan Dillon, Deputy Mattie McGrath, Senator Malcolm Byrne and Senator Fintan Warfield will examine the applications and report back to the Joint Committee.

Deputy Smyth said: “Oireachtas Committees have an important role in ensuring suitably qualified candidates are nominated to State boards. Members of State boards are appointed to act on behalf of the public to oversee the running of the affairs of state bodies. State boards must serve the interests of the taxpayer, pursue value for money, ensure transparency, and be accountable for the proper management of the organisation.

“The Committee now invites applications from members of the public and will examine the applications received before making recommendations to the Minister. Those putting their names forward should attach a short history of their work experience, detailing which of the criteria for appointment they satisfy, as well as a copy of their CV.”

Further information on applying for these positions is available on StateBoards.ie.

Candidates should send their CVs to jcmedia@oireachtas.ie

The closing date for applications is 3pm on Thursday, 17 December 2020.
