22 May 2013, 15:21

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications tomorrow meets with Officials from two government departments to consider EU legislative proposals relating to enhancing air passenger compensation in the event of flight delays and reducing the cost of deploying high speed broadband.

22 May 2013

Officials from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport will assist the Committee in their consideration of COM (2013) 130 and officials from the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources will follow with scrutiny of COM(2013) 147.

Committee Chairman Tom Hayes TD says: “Committees are playing an ever more important role in the oversight of EU legislation. We look forward to welcoming officials from the two government departments who will assist the Committee in further scrutinising legislation from Brussels. Both proposals, relating to air travel and digital infrastructure, have the potential to impact significantly on how European citizens connect with one another. On carefully considering the proposals with the officials, the Committee will decide what further action to take in respect of these important pieces of EU legislation. ”

The Committee meeting takes place tomorrow Thursday 23 May at 10 am in Committee Room 3. Proceedings be viewed online via this link.
