21 February 2017

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will tomorrow meet with representatives from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) to discuss the fiscal outlook, economic competitiveness and labour market developments in the context of Budget 2018.

The meeting will commence at 2.00pm in Committee Room 2 tomorrow, Wednesday, 22 February 2017.

Committee Chairman, John Paul Phelan TD, said “Congress is a key social partner and can offer valuable insight into areas such as future capital investment which is an issue the Committee is currently examining.”

“In addition, with challenges like Brexit coming down the tracks, we need to discuss Labour market developments and ways of ensuring that we have the proper skill sets to maintain economic growth. As ICTU members operate at the delivery end of services and industry, Congress will have a good perspective on what we need to do to maximise labour market participation and on the list of issues that need to be addressed, especially in areas such as housing and health”
