Justice & Equality Committee to discuss Ombudsman’s investigation into Magdalen Restorative Justice Scheme

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will focus on the investigation by the Ombudsman into the administration of the Magdalen Restorative Justice Scheme at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 31 January 2018.

Chairman of the Committee Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin said: “The Ombudsman’s report, Opportunity Lost, which looked at the administration of the Magdalen Restorative Justice Scheme, was critical of the manner in which the scheme was administered and highlighted significant failings in its operation. Tomorrow, we will examine the scheme in greater detail with the Ombudsman. We will also meet with representatives from the Department of Justice and Equality to discuss the steps taken by the Department in light of the recommendations of the Ombudsman’s report and what further measures need to be taken.”

The meeting will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, 30 January at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.
