Culture, Heritage and Gaeltacht Committee to discuss local, regional museums

11 Dec 2018, 14:32

The Joint Committee on Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht will discuss the development of regional and local museums on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 1:30 p.m.

Scheduled witnesses include representatives from:

  • The Heritage Council
  • Irish Museums Association
  • Local Authority Museum Network
  • National Museum of Ireland

“Ireland is home to hundreds of local and regional museums and collections. They each provide special insight into the history of our towns and villages, and their links to the arts and craftsmanship, industries and institutions,” said Committee Chairman Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD.

“The Committee is eager to discuss with key stakeholders the road ahead in developing and promoting these museums as drivers for tourism, research and national engagement in the remarkable past of Ireland’s regions and localities,” Deputy Ó Snodaigh said. “Our local and regional museums can best thrive as part of a collaborative network, and this goal will feature in our discussions.”

The meeting in Committee Room 4 can be viewed live here.
