8 May 2019, 11:43

The Joint Committee on Housing, Planning & Local Government will meet tomorrow (Thursday) at 9.30am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House to hear from the National Oversight and Audit Commission (NOAC).

The National Oversight and Audit Commission (NOAC) and the Local Government Audit Service (LGAS) will appear before the committee, with the former to discuss matters related to the 2017 Indicators Report.

In advance of tomorrows meeting, the Chairman of the Joint Committee, Deputy Maria Bailey, said: “NOAC provides a range of services which are very important to our country, from scrutinising the performance of local government bodies to monitoring and evaluating adherence to Service LevelAgreements, and also overseeing how national local government policy is implemented by local government bodies.”

Deputy Maria Bailey explained: “The 2017 Indicators Report is the fourth annual Performance Indicator Report published by NOAC in relation to its function of scrutinising local authority performance against relevant indicators, and this particular report is based on data provided to the Local Government Management Agency by the 31 local authorities in response to a reporting guidelines document issued by NOAC.”

The Committee meeting will also afford the Local Government Audit Service (LGAS) the chance to discuss matters related to the Overview of the work of the Local Government Audit Service.

The LGAS provides independent scrutiny of the financial stewardship of local authorities and other local bodies.

Deputy Maria Bailey said: “Thursday will also provide the Committee with an update from the LGAS which undertakes Value for Money audits, publishes the reports which result and help local authorities in achieving better value for money.”
