Joint Committee on Employment Affairs and Social Protection to resume discussion on Bogus Self-Employment

4 Dec 2019, 16:30

The Joint Committee on Employment Affairs and Social Protection will meet tomorrow (Thursday) at 11am in Committee Room 4, Leinster House to resume discussions on bogus self-employment.

The Committee will hear from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, as well as the Chief Appeals Officer of the Social Welfare Appeals Office.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Chairman John Curran TD said: “The Committee looks forward to continuing our examination of bogus self-employment with the Department and the Chief Appeals Officer. This is our seventh engagement with stakeholders since November 2018 when the Committee launched an investigation into the plight of vulnerable workers wrongly treated as self-employed contractors in order to avoid tax and social insurance contributions and employment rights.”
