The Committee of Public Accounts (PAC) will hold two meetings this week with officials from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to consider the Comptroller and Auditor General’s 2019 Appropriation Accounts and chapters from his 2019 report.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, 25 November, the meeting at 4.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will discuss:
- C&AG Appropriation Accounts 2019: Vote 34 - Housing Planning and Local Government;
- Local Government Fund 2019;
- C&AG 2019 report, Chapter 2: Central Government funding of local authorities.
The following day, Thursday, 26 November, the Committee will meet at 11.30am in the same venue to discuss the following chapters from the 2019 report:
- Chapter 11: Measuring performance for Exchequer spending on social housing;
- Chapter 12: Progress under the Land Aggregation Scheme;
- Chapter 13: The Pyrite Remediation Scheme.
The C&AG, Seamus McCarthy, will address both meetings, followed by the Secretary General, Graham Doyle, and officials from the Department.
PAC Chair Deputy Brian Stanley said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to meet with the Secretary General and his officials to discuss the Department’s accounts and spending programmes. The Department has received considerable funding increases in recent years, including capital funding for increased social housing construction and Irish Water infrastructure. It is important that the public sees how this taxpayers’ money is spent and the Committee looks forward to engaging with Mr Doyle and his officials on these and other matters raised by the C&AG.”
The PAC is a standing committee of Dáil Éireann which focuses on ensuring public services are run efficiently and achieve value for money.
Both meetings in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
