Joint Committee on Children, Disability, Equality and Integration to discuss ‘Unmet Needs’ report with Ombudsman for Children

30 Nov 2020, 17:19

The Joint Committee on Children, Disability, Equality and Integration will meet with the Ombudsman for Children tomorrow, Tuesday, 1 December, to discuss the ‘Unmet Needs’ report.

The meeting at 4.00pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will hear from Dr Niall Muldoon, Ombudsman for Children, and his colleagues, Karen McAuley, Head of Policy Department, and Ciara McKenna-Keane, External Investigator.

Committee Chair Deputy Kathleen Funchion said: “The Ombudsman’s ‘Unmet Needs’ report highlights how some children were so long on the Early Intervention Services waiting list for an Assessment of Needs up to the age of five years that they became too old to remain on that list, and as a result had to go to the bottom of the AON list for school aged children. This is a matter of deep concern to the Committee and we look forward to discussing this and other issues raised in the report with the Ombudsman and his colleagues.”

The Joint Committee on Children, Disability, Equality and Integration  has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
