7 Dec 2020, 16:52

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, at  1.45pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House when officials from the Financial Services Union appear.

It is the first of two meetings scheduled for this week, with the recently appointed European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union, Mairead McGuinness, due before the committee from 2pm on Wednesday for a discussion of her priorities for her term of office.

In advance of the meetings, Chairperson of the Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach, John McGuinness, TD, said: “The Committee very much looks forward to the first engagement of this Dáil term with the Financial Services Union, it is clear that its members are very much impacted regarding the speculation surrounding strategic reviews and branch closures. These are matters which impact upon families and communities nationwide.”

In advance of the second meeting of the week, Chair McGuinness added: “Of course, we all know that the State faces severe financial risks associated with Brexit, and with that in mind the timely input of Commissioner McGuinness and her perspective on Wednesday afternoon will be most welcome.”

Tomorrow’s meeting in Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
