22 Mar 2021, 14:15

The Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht will discuss the impact of Covid-19 on the Hospitality Sector when it meets tomorrow, Tuesday, 23 March.

The meeting at 12.30pm will be broadcast from Committee Room 2 of Leinster House and will be addressed remotely by representatives from:

  • Restaurants Association of Ireland;
  • Irish Hotels Federation;
  • Licenced Vintners Association;
  • Vintners Federation of Ireland.

Committee Chair Deputy Niamh Smyth said: “The hospitality sector has been devasted by Covid-19 due to the public health restrictions which have closed pubs, cafes, restaurants and hotels.

“But now that the vaccine programme offers hope that the country and economy can reopen in the coming months, we may soon be able to look forward to the reopening of hospitality businesses.

“The Committee looks forward to discussing with the representatives of the sector the impact the pandemic has had and how they plan to reopen and rebuild hospitality businesses as the public health restrictions are progressively eased.”

The Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
