Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform and Taoiseach to resume engagement with insurance industry

25 May 2021, 15:15

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform and Taoiseach will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 26 May, to resume engagement with representatives of the insurance industry.

The meeting at 12.30pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House will hear from representatives of Axa Insurance, AIG and Engineers Ireland.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy John McGuinness said: “Following our discussions last week with the other large companies in the insurance market here, the Committee looks forward to this engagement with the representatives of Axa and AIG. Members would like to hear their perspective on business interruption insurance for businesses closed during the pandemic, reports that people are being denied mortgage protection policies due to Covid-19, and the new judicial council guidelines for personal injury awards and their effect on premium levels. We will also be discussing concerns Engineers Ireland have raised about difficulties their members are experiencing getting full insurance cover.”

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform and Taoiseach has 13 Members, nine from the Dáil and four from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas.ie.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
