26 May 2021, 17:20

The Committee of Public Accounts (PAC) will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 27 May, to examine the Comptroller and Auditor General’s 2019 Appropriation Account (Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport) with officials from the Department of Transport.

The meeting at 9.30am will be broadcast from Committee Room 3 of Leinster House and will hear from the Comptroller and Auditor General, Seamus McCarthy, followed by the Secretary General, Ken Spratt, and officials from the Department.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Stanley said: “The Department of Transport has a range of important responsibilities including the development and maintenance of Ireland’s road, rail, public transport and aviation infrastructure, and the Irish Coast Guard. In our role as the watchdog for the public finances, the Committee looks forward to discussing items from the C&AG’s 2019 appropriation accounts and related matters with the Secretary General and his colleagues. Areas of interest to the Committee include expenditure on the BusConnects scheme, the Coast Guard and the contract to provide Search and Rescue services, as well as the efforts to clear the current backlog in driver testing across all sectors arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas.ie.
