Committee of Public Accounts to examine C&AG’s 2019 Appropriation Account with Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage

2 Jun 2021, 16:30

The Committee of Public Accounts (PAC) will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 3 June, to resume its examination of the Comptroller and Auditor General’s 2019 Appropriation Account (Vote 34 - Housing, Planning and Local Government) with officials from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

The meeting at 9.30am will be broadcast from Committee Room 3 of Leinster House and will hear from the Secretary General, Graham Doyle, and officials from the Department.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Stanley said: “This meeting with the Department follows on from our engagement with Mr Doyle and his colleagues last November. Among the areas the Committee wishes to explore are the Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS) and Housing Assistance Payment scheme (HAP), and the Social Housing Current Expenditure Programme (SHCEP), which enables local authorities and approved housing bodies to acquire dwellings on a long-term lease. These programmes cost the taxpayer considerable amounts of money on an annual basis and the Committee looks forward to discussing these and related matters with the Department.”

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas.ie.

PAC is a standing committee of Dáil Éireann which focuses on ensuring public services are run efficiently and achieve value for money.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
