The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 16 June, with members of the Future of Media Commission.

The meeting at 12.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will be split into two sessions:

·         12.30-1.25pm – An exchange of views on the future of media in Ireland and the work of the Future of Media Commission with representatives from the Future of Media Commission;

·         1.35-2.30pm – Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the Online Safety and Media Regulation Bill 2020 and the integration of the Broadcast (Amendment) Bill 2019 with said Bill with Officials from Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Niamh Smyth said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to engage with members of the Future of Media Commission and looks forward to discussing their terms of reference, work to date and areas of common interest.

“In our second session, the Committee will continue our pre-legislative scrutiny of the Online Safety and Media Regulation Bill. The discussion with officials from the Department follows the announcement last month by the Government that the Broadcast (Amendment) Bill 2019 will be integrated into the OSMR with the addition of three new heads to the Bill.”

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
