22 Feb 2022, 16:30

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 23 February, with Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen to discuss online disinformation and media literacy.

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 1:30pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Niamh Smyth said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to discuss the need for greater transparency and accountability across online social media platforms, measures to tackle the spread of online disinformation and so-called fake news and the impact this has on individuals and society. We look forward to hearing from Ms Haugen on her experiences in this field.”

The meeting in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
