Disability Committee to discuss aligning education with the UNCRPD with representatives from the Union of Students Ireland (USI)

The Joint Committee on Disability Matters will meet tomorrow, Thursday February 24th, to discuss aligning education with the UNCPRD with representatives from the Union of Students Ireland (USI). 

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House between 9:45am-12:30pm. 

The UNCRPD article 24 on education for those with disabilities and calls for States parties to ensure the realisation of the right of persons with disabilities to education through an inclusive education system at all levels, and for all students, without discrimination and on an equal basis with others, while ensuring reasonable accommodation of the individual’s requirements is provided.

Representatives from Union of Students in Ireland (USI), Somhairle Brennan, Vice President for Welfare and Bukky Adebowale, Vice President for Equality and Citizenship will address the meeting.

The Joint Committee on Disability Matters has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
