Joint Committee on Justice to resume their pre-legislative scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Gambling Regulation Bill.

The Joint Committee on Justice will meet tomorrow, Tuesday March 22th 2022 to resume public hearings on submissions from representatives from organisations in relation to the Committee’s pre-legislative scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Gambling Regulation Bill.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House at 3pm. 

Submissions will be taken from representatives from:

·       Extern Problem Gambling

·       Gambling Awareness Trust

·       Institute of Public Health

·       Department of Justice

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach James Lawless said: “Tomorrow’s meeting will be used to get the views of those who are calling for this legislation as a way of ensuring Gambling organisations are held to the highest standards possible in order to protect consumers and support those who engage in harmful gambling activity.

We continue to hope that our scrutiny of this draft legislation contributes to our aim, as a Committee, to highlight safeguards to address problem gambling and the protection of children and seek to ensure public safety, well-being, and consumer protection is to the forefront.”

The Joint Committee on Justice has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
