31 May 2022, 15:40

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media will meet in 2 sessions tomorrow, Wednesday, 1 June. In the first session the Committee will receive an update from Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, T.D. and Minister of State Jack Chambers T.D. with responsibility for Sport and the Gaeltacht on key Departmental priorities and legislation. The second will consider a safe and respectful working environment in the Arts with Minister Martin.

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 1:30pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Niamh Smyth said: "The Committee is very much looking forward to meeting with Minister Martin and Minister of State Chambers in order to get an update on their plans and strategic objectives for the Department going forward.

With the summer season nearly upon us, it is vital for the Ministers and Department to be fully ready to meet the demands and have cognisance of the supports that will be necessary for the tourism, culture, arts, sport and media sectors in this period. The second session proposed continues the Committee’s examination of this important issue, having heard previously from a range of State agencies and stakeholder groups."

The meeting in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
