Joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media to discuss governance and related issues within Cycling Ireland

12 Jul 2022, 14:15

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media will meet to discuss governance and related issues within Cycling Ireland tomorrow, Wednesday, 13 July

The Committee will hear submissions from representatives from:

·       Cycling Ireland

·       Sport Ireland

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 1:30pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Niamh Smyth said: "Our Committee is looking forward to the opportunity presented by this meeting with representatives of Cycling Ireland and Sport Ireland.

We will talk to Sport Ireland and Cycling Ireland about the supports provided to Cycling Ireland who currently delivers a broad range of initiatives, projects and events across multiple Sport Ireland investment programmes including participation, inclusion, Women in Sport and High performance.

The fact that cycling has been listed as one of three priority sports in the National Sports Policy, with Government committing significant funds to the area gives this meeting a timely focus.

We will use this meeting to hear first-hand from the new Board of Cycling Ireland on its welcome commitment to a culture of integrity, recognition of the importance in providing value for public funds, and its adherence to robust principles of good governance.”

The meeting in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
