4 Oct 2022, 11:05

The Joint Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth will meet to discuss the decision of the Minister not to establish an International Expert Group to review testimonies provided by survivors of Mother and Baby Homes to the Commission of Investigation, today, Tuesday, 4 October.

The meeting at 3pm will hear from Roderic O’Gorman, Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Cathaoirleach of the Committee Deputy Kathleen Funchion TD said “our Committee believes that it is vital that the Minister comes before us to give complete clarification to the survivors and families impacted by his decision."

We will seek in-depth information from the Minister on the new initiative to support survivors to tell their personal story, so that it can be formally recorded and accepted as part of the official record. By doing so, this Committee can assist the survivors and make sure their concerns are heard by the Minister.”
