Disability Matters Committee to discuss enabling community inclusion for people with disabilities with representatives

The Joint Committee on Disability Matters will meet on Thursday November 24th to discuss enabling community inclusion for people with disabilities.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House between 09:30-11:45.

The following representatives will appear at the Committee:
• Representatives from DPO Network , Peter Kearns, Joe McGrath, Nem Kearns, Elaine Grehan & John Sherwin

• Officials from Dept. of Rural and Community Development, Bairbre Nic Aongusa, Assistant Secretary General, Aoife O’Brien and Elaine Jennings Community and Voluntary Supports and Programmes

• Representatives from the County and City Management Association (CCMA), Mr John Mulholland, Chair, CCMA Rural Development, Community, Culture and Heritage, Mr Michael Rainey and Mr Michael Nicholson, Members of CCMA RCCH

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Moynihan said:
“We welcome the opportunity to engage with representatives from the Disabled Persons Organisation Network, the County and City Management Association (CCMA) and the Department of Rural and Community Development to discuss DPO participation and development of permanent structure for consultation with people with disabilities at Local Government level as well as Local Area Coordination and community development to enable community inclusion for people with disability."


“The Committee published a report in October calling for measures to support the participation of people with disabilities in political, cultural, community and public life."
