Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine to hold separate discussions with Minister McConalogue and fishing industry representatives

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet this evening to discuss matters related to the next meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) on 11-12 December.

The meeting at 5.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will be divided into two sessions:

  • 5.30pm-7.00pm – Engagement with Charlie McConalogue TD, Minister for Agriculture, Food and Marine, ahead of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting;
  • 7.00pm-8.30pm – Discussion on fishing quotas and decommissioning with representatives from Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation (KFO), the Irish Fish Producers Organisation (IFPO), the Irish South & East Fish Producers Organisation (IS&EFPO) and the Irish South & West Fish Producers Organisation (IS&WFPO).

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to meet with Minister McConalogue ahead of his attendance at the meeting with his European counterparts to set fishing quotas for 2023. Following this Members will meet with the representatives of the Fishing Sector to hear their concerns around fishing quotas for next year and the decommissioning of fishing vessels ahead of the AGRIFISH meeting.”

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
