Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine to discuss Forestry Policy and Strategy with Minister McConalogue and Minister of State Hackett

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 5.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to meet with Minister McConalogue and Minister of State Hackett for an update on forestry policy and strategy.

“Matters of interest to the Committee include the Department’s new afforestation strategy up to 2027, tree plantation targets, licencing issues, Coillte’s arrangement with private sector funds to manage long-term forestry development which has caused a great deal of concern in rural areas, and concerns raised by farmers and growers around the impact on rural Ireland. Members look forward to discussing these and related matters with both ministers.”

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
