Joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport & Media to discuss Future business model plans and long-term vision for the media sector (Irish language, culture, the creative economy and sport)

The Committee will hear from representatives from:

·       National Campaign for the Arts

·       Conradh na Gaeilge

·       Sport Ireland

·       Irish Music Rights Organisation

·       Joint Creative Audiovisual Sectoral Group

·        

Speaking ahead of the meeting Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Niamh Smyth TD said “The meeting tomorrow will focus on the Irish language, culture, the creative economy and sporting aspects of the media sector. It follows on from previous meetings we have had with representatives from access and inclusion sectors of media and also with the radio, print media and journalism.

Our recent meetings have allowed the Committee to have concentrated discussions on the future business model plans and long-term vision for the media sector. The large range and diversity of voices that have attended these meetings have provided important insights and information.

These meetings come on foot of discussions with Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, T.D. last year on the final report of the Future of Media Commission, the independent body established to consider how the media sector can remain sustainable and resilient in delivering public service aims over the next decade.”
