21 Feb 2023, 15:00

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet tomorrow, Wednesday 22nd February at 5.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House for a resumption of discussion on Forestry Policy and Strategy.

The meeting will hear from representatives from:

·        Irish Timber Council (ITC)

·       Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA)

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “The meeting tomorrow comes after our Committee had a very informative and productive meeting with Minister McConalogue and Minister of State Hackett for an update on forestry policy and strategy last month.

“We will continue our focus on the Department’s new afforestation strategy up to 2027, tree plantation targets, licencing issues, Coillte’s arrangement with private sector funds to manage long-term forestry development which has caused a great deal of concern in rural areas. One of our main priorities as a Committee remains to highlight the impacts on Forestry raised by farmers and growers around rural Ireland.”

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
