Good Friday Committee to hear from former UUP leader Lord Empey

The Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement will meet on Thursday March 9th to continue its series of engagements with architects of the Good Friday Agreement.

Lord Empey will address the meeting which will take place in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House between 13:30 - 16:30.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Fergus O’Dowd said: “We look forward to continuing our series of meetings with architects of the Good Friday Agreement with former Ulster Unionist Party Leader Lord Empey who acted as the senior UUP negotiatort during the multi-year talks that led to the Good Friday Agreement."

“Lord Empey is also member of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly which held a recent extraordinary meeting this week at Stormont to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.”

​“We look forward to hearing his reflections on the negotiations and his views on the future of the Agreement.”

The Committee has already heard from Bertie Ahern, John Major, John Bruton, George Mitchell, Bronagh Hinds, Mark Durkan, Lord Alderdice, Jonathan Powell, Liz O’Donnell, Martin Mansergh and Tim O’Connor.
