The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 3 May, at 5.30pm to discuss Biomethane Renewable Gas with stakeholders.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will be split into two sessions:

  • 5.30pm-7pm – Representatives from Gas Networks Ireland, Irish BioEnergy Association, Biocore Environmental and Renewable Gas Forum Ireland;
  • 7pm-8.30pm – Representatives from Teagasc.

Ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “Development of biomethane energy generation can play a key part in ensuring the Irish agriculture sector meets its carbon reduction targets.

“At the same time this can offer important benefits to Ireland, including contributing to our energy security, offering additional income streams to farming families, and ensuring farmers play their part in the national decarbonisation of heating and electricity generation.

“The Committee welcomes this opportunity to discuss biomethane gas generation and related policy matters with our stakeholders and looks forward to a wide-ranging and constructive engagement on this critical issue for the future of the agriculture sector.”

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
