The Joint Committee on Disability Matters will meet on Thursday May 4th to discuss the consideration of rights-based behaviour analysis and support with representatives from the Psychological Society of Ireland and the Irish Society for Behaviour Analysis.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House between 10:00 - 12:30.

The following representatives are due to appear:

Representatives from the Irish Society for Behaviour Analysis , Alan Tennyson, Chair ISBA. Irish Behaviour Analyst & Amy O'Keefe, MSc. Irish Behaviour Analyst

Representatives from Division of Behaviour Analysis, Psychological Society of Ireland , Dr Michelle Kelly, Chair DBA & Dr Teresa Mulhern, BCBA-D

Speaking ahead of the meeting Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Moynihan said: “We welcome the opportunity to hear about rights-based behaviour analysis and support. Tomorrow’s representatives actively work to promote a rights based and values driven approach to behaviour analysis in Ireland through awareness raising, education, and by seeking the regulation of behavioural practitioners and services.”

“Behaviour analysis should always take a values-based and learner-centred approach that values neurodiversity and prioritises the well-being of those with disabilities, in line with UNCRPD. The goal of this neuro affirmative approach is not to encourage neurotypical behaviours but to support and affirm people with disabilities so they can access and develop the skills that they want to access.”
