Social Protection Committee to discuss local and rural transport services with the National Transport Authority and Irish Rural Link

9 May 2023, 16:53

The Joint Committee on Social Protection, Community and Rural Development and the Islands will meet on Wednesday May 10th to discuss local and rural transport services.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House between 09:30-12-30.

Representatives from the National Transport Authority and Irish Rural Link will appear before the Committee.

Speaking ahead of the meeting Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Denis Naughten said: “Local transport providers deliver an important service to rural communities that they serve. The national rural development policy entitled Our Rural Future 2021-2025 recognises that people living in rural areas should have access to good quality public services that enable them to continue to live sustainably in rural communities and help them to maintain a good quality of life.”

“If we are to fulfil our climate action goals, it is clear we need a sustainable, integrated rural transport system that reaches as many people as possible.”
