Committee of Public Accounts to examine 2021 Appropriation Accounts for Department of Justice

The Committee of Public Accounts (PAC) will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 25 May, to examine the 2021 Appropriation Accounts for Vote 24 (Justice).

The meeting at 9.30am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will be joined by the C&AG, Seamus McCarthy, and officials from the Department of Justice, led by the Secretary General, Oonagh McPhillips, who is the accountable person to the PAC.

The afternoon session, beginning at 1.30pm, will consider correspondence and other business of the Committee.

PAC Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Stanley said: “The Department of Justice has overall responsibility for public policy and administration concerning criminal and civil justice, national security, equality, disability, and human rights issues. The Department’s overall expenditure during 2021 was €467 million.

“Areas of interest to the Committee include the Immigrant Investor Programme, expenditure and governance in relation to the International Protection assessment process, and funding and governance for domestic violence refuge centres. The Committee looks forward to examining these topics and related matters with Ms McPhillips and her colleagues.”
