Disability Matters Committee to discuss the national monitoring role of parliaments on the UNCRPD

The Joint Committee on Disability Maters will meet on Thursday June 22nd to discuss the national monitoring role of parliaments on the UNCRPD.

 

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House between 09:30-12:30.

A Representative from the Maltese House of Representatives, Dr. Katya DeGiovanni, Chair, Social Affairs Committee will address the Committee.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Moynihan said: “We welcome the opportunity to hear from the chair of the Maltese Social Affairs Committee to hear about the UNCPRD monitoring role in Malta.”

“As independent institutions, Parliaments have an important role to play with regard to monitoring the operation of legislation and relevant progress and being a watchdog”

“We look forward to engaging with Dr DeGiovanni on how best to strengthen best practices and learning how to ensure the voices of people with disabilities are heard but also protected and empowered by the work of Committees and parliamentary bodies.”
