Joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media meets to discuss inclusion in sport

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 1:30pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Niamh Smyth said: "The continued socialisation of sport and the promotion of an inherent inclusivity for everyone contemplating taking part in sport and for those actively participating in sport in Ireland is paramount for our Committee. We very much look forward to hearing from the stakeholders today on how best Government can contribute to the continued encouragement and focus necessary.

The importance of sport in a persons well-being and mental health cannot be underestimated and a society where everyone is included and feels comfortable in participating in sport, recreational fitness or physical education regardless of who they are or ability is something that everyone can support.”

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
