Joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media meet to discuss RTÉ’s expenditure of public funds and governance issues following the statement issued by the RTÉ Board on 22nd June 2023

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media will meet today, Wednesday, 5th July to resume its discussions with representatives from Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) regarding RTÉ’s expenditure of public funds and governance issues following the statement issued by the RTÉ Board on 22nd June 2023.  

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 1:30pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Niamh Smyth said: " We have again invited members of the Executive Board of RTÉ and the parties centre to the issues being discussed to come before our Committee to publicly outline the extent and severity of the issues involved.

 

We reiterate the expectation RTÉ gives its full cooperation during the course of this scrutiny of matters in respect of governance, policy, expenditure, and administration within the organisation.  The Committee also reiterates its belief that public service broadcasting is a key pillar of Ireland’s democracy and that transparency and accountability on the part of our public service broadcasters are fundamental.”

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
