Joint Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth meet to discuss Child Protection

The Joint Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth will meet today, Wednesday 20th September to discuss Child Protection.

The meeting in 2 sessions will be broadcast from Committee Room 4 at 6pm and the discussion will hear from:

Session 1

  • Mr Roderic O’Gorman TD, Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth
  • Ms Kate Duggan, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Tusla
  • Mr Ger Brophy, Chief Social Worker, Tusla
  • Ms Clare Murphy, National Director of Services and Integration, Tusla
  • Ms Lorna Kavanagh, Area Manager, National Services and Integration, Tusla.

Session 2

  • Ms Caoilfhionn Gallagher, KC, Special Rapporteur on Child Protection

 

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kathleen Funchion TD said “Our meeting today follows on from recent discussions this Committee has had with the stakeholders who are tasked with providing Child Protection services in Ireland.

We will look to get first-hand insights on the challenges impacting our most vulnerable children. Our Committee continues to demonstrate its support for these most important agencies providing the vital frontline services and will continue to advocate to the Department and Government for increased funding, staffing and resources in order to strengthen this area.”
