Disability Matters Committee to discuss transport and mobility support options for people with disabilities with Minister Anne Rabbitte

The Joint Committee on Disability Matters will meet on Wednesday, October 4th to discuss enhanced transport and mobility support options for people with disabilities.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House between 17:30-20:30.

The following representatives are due to appear:

Minister of State at the Department of Health and at the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth - Anne Rabbitte

Officials from Dept. of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Deirdre Comiskey, Principal Officer, Disability Children’s Services Unit, Tara Smith, Assistant Principal, Disability Equality Policy Unit & Donie O’Shea, Equality Policy Advisor

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Moynihan: “We look forward to resuming our discussion on transport and mobility issues for people with disabilities with the Minister and Department officials.”

“From the results of Census 2022, we know that approximately 1 in 5 people in Ireland reported living with some form of disability. People with disabilities are not isolated  - they are part of all of our lives and all of our communities.”

“Every Government department and every agency is responsible for implementing the UNCRPD on a mainstream-first basis including transport supports, to actively incorporate the needs of disabled people in service delivery and policy-making processes.”
