4 Oct 2023, 10:20

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet today at 5.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House to discuss Ireland’s Forestry Programme and Strategy with the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD, and the Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Senator Pippa Hackett.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to meet with Minister McConalogue and Minister of State Hackett for their second update this year on forestry policy and strategy.

Matters of interest to the Committee include progress on the Department’s afforestation strategy up to 2027, tree plantation targets, licencing issues, Coillte’s arrangement with private sector funds to manage long-term forestry development, and concerns raised by farmers and growers around the impact on rural Ireland. Members look forward to discussing these and related matters with both ministers.”

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
