Joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media meet for discussion on inclusion in sport

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 11th October at 1:30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House for discussion on inclusion in sport.  

The Committee will hear from representatives from:

·       Officials from Dept. of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media

·       Representatives from Sport Ireland

·       Representatives from Federation of Irish Sport

·       Representatives from The Football Association of Ireland (FAI)

·       Representatives from Gaelic Athletic Association, (GAA)

·       Representatives from Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU)

 

Speaking ahead of the meeting Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Niamh Smyth said: "The focus of the meeting tomorrow is on inclusion in sport and we look forward to hearing from the Department and our major governing sporting organisations on what measures and programmes they have implemented in order to continue the encouraged participation and collaboration to increase sports inclusion.

Our Committee continues to believe that all sporting disciplines should provide an equal and welcoming environment to all, and every code involved must play its part in shaping the kind of sport that exemplifies inclusion, fair play, and good conduct.”

The Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport and Media  has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
