Joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport & Media meet for discussion on development of local and community arts

The meeting will hear from representatives from:

·       Association of Irish Festivals and Events

·       Drama League of Ireland

·       Amateur Drama Council of Ireland

·       Association of Irish Musical Societies

·       Theatre Forum

Speaking ahead of the meeting Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Niamh Smyth TD said “today’s meeting focuses on the development of local and community arts which is a sector that our Committee has demonstrated our strong commitment to. We continue to encourage the enhancement of local art and artists. We are very aware of the positive contribution to Irish society by artists. We have previously held meetings on wide-ranging issues relating to the Arts in Ireland with diverse stakeholders from the sector across the entire country and today’s engagement will focus from a grassroots level on the development of local and community arts.

Our engagement with the representatives attending today will allow us to get a clear indication into what they believe the Government can implement in order to nurture and bolster local Irish and community arts.”
