Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage to meet for Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2024

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 23 April, for Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2024.

The meeting at 11am in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House will be split into two sessions to hear from:

  • 11am-12:30pm – Representatives from Simon Communities of Ireland, Focus Ireland, Threshold and Community Law and Mediation;
  • 12:30pm-2pm – Officials from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.   

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Steven Matthews said: “The Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2024 provides for amendments and additions to the Housing Acts. These include provisions in respect of social housing, the regulation of Approved Housing Bodies,  and homeless supports. The Bill also provides for amendments to the Building Controls Acts.

“The Committee looks forward to carrying out our pre-legislative scrutiny of the Heads of Bill and discussing in detail the proposed provisions with the Department officials and stakeholders who deal with matters relating to social housing and homelessness.”

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
