Vol. 8 No. 22

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - CONTROL OF IRISH LIGHTS.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the lighthouses under the control of the Commissioners of Irish Lights have been, or are about to be, transferred to the Saorstát, and whether the Saorstát Government is now responsible for the conditions of employment of the staff of the lighthouse service.

Lighthouses under the control of the Commissioners of Irish Lights have been transferred to the Saorstát by virtue of Article 79 of the Constitution. The matter referred to in the second portion of the question is under consideration by reason of the Annex to the Treaty, which provides for a convention between the British Government and the Government of the Saorstát with reference to the maintenance of these lighthouses.
