Vol. 16 No. 21

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE IN CO. KILDARE.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that members of the Gárda Síochána refused to sign unemployment insurance benefit "excuse forms" for Patrick Fitzgerald, Monasterevan, Co. Kildare, on the grounds that men could obtain work from farmers in the district at 4/6 per day; whether the Gárda Síochana have been instructed to adopt such an attitude between employers and employees, and, if not, if he will state what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

It is not a fact that the local Gárda Síochána refused to sign Unemployment Insurance Benefit "excuse forms" for Patrick Fitzgerald, Monasterevan, County Kildare, on the grounds that men could obtain work from farmers in the district at 4/6 per day. The forms in question were duly signed on every occasion on which application was made, and no instructions have been issued to the Gárda Síochána, or are in contemplation, to withhold their signature to "excuse forms" in such circumstances.
